Well the Kindle app for the ipad would seem to be the obvious answer.

The only problem is the shorter battery life of the ipad and it's not as easy to read in bright light.
You can download the Kindle app (for Kindle books) and iBooks for books from the Apple store, from iTunes app store, both are free

Oooh i didnt know therebwas such an app chuck! Thank you! Ill have to look x
I've got ibooks on my ipad2 which allows me to download books.

It's also worth checking out your local library. They may have a system installed which allows you to download books for free for a limited time.

So with a kindle do you just pay for the books as you want them? And are they cheaper? X
Note that today Amazon announced a Kindle which will also have the sort of functions built into a iPad (though it will run the Android operating system).

Thanks all ive downloaded the app and have NO IDEA how to use it haha x
Only problem with Kindle is that you can't download library books to it. I checked at the library and they said it was something to do with Amazon not allowing it. Suppose they would prefer you to buy the e-books.
Further to my last download the Overdrive app for the library books. You can download 9 at a time and keep them for 3 weeks.
I have an ipad and wouldn't be without it - and I also have a kindle. I love reading but not on an ipad - but it is absolutely amazing on a Kindle.

If reading is your predominate wish, then buy a kindle. You really wouldn't want to spend more than about 30 minutes reading from an ipad screen
the kindle is brilliant.....

see that you have someone with a very similar name on here, tb - they were on last night.
kindle does have lending library if you pay an annual fee to be a prime member...just under €50 pa I think, this also gives free express delivery on many goods bought on Amazon.....
