flash player - wont install

hi since yesterday, my flash player has been completely unable to work. Whenever i go to a site that might need it, it says something like "you need flash player to view this content; get it from here"
so i have installed it, but it's still saying i haven't got it!
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, restarting computer etc but to no avail - what else can i do?
