Thanks for the reply 'Old Geezer' talking of expertise I have just been on the phone for an hour with HP (second phone call to them) and have got no further with an answer I am no getting to my wits end, this laptap will be thrown out of the window soon. The modem is working ok via a cable to the desk top computer and wireless to my husbands laptop and was working ok originally with my laptop until my new laptop got a virus and it hasn't worked properly since (we have cleared everything off this laptop - so to start again and then the problems started). PLEASE PLEASE can somebody help to explain what to do in simple talk and not computer gargon.
