You may find much of this music has already been digitized and is available on the internet.
Spotify has about 14 million tracks, including much early Jazz and other "old" music. Have a look there http://www.spotify.com/uk/ |

thanks ankou and VHG. i have a turntable that works beautifully, a slightly elderly kenwood.
vhg i don't really want to have to purchase more tracks. iwant to put some of those that i have got onto CD's so that i can take them with me in the car, etc. is there such a machine that will do what i want? |

Ankou's link will show what you need.
You will be able to import the sound to your pc, convert it to mp3 format and then 'burn' it to a CD which you can then play in your car. |
|
you can buy turntables with a cd drive and burn them straight, but they are more £200+. i just assumed you'd prefer the cheaper option.

You don't need to buy anything except a suitable lead to connect your hifi output to the line in socket on your computer. You can then simply us audacity to record to the computer and write to CD.
Audacity is free: http://audacity.sourc....net/download/windows |

slack alice - does this mean i need an mp3 player? please what is this?
rojash - my record palyer does not have an output (at least i don't think so) that i can connect with pc. the record player is about 25 years old. am i likely to be able to find something to overcome these problems? thanks. |
|
"rojash - my record palyer does not have an output "
Well, in your earlier post you called it a turntable, which is usually used to denote one that plugs into a separate amplifier. If this is the case you can either connect it to the PC instead of to the external amplifier, or, if the amplifier has an Aux output (and most of them do) you can connect that to the line input of your pc. "the record player is about 25 years old. " Record players haven't changed much in the last 40 years. |
