How can I scan a newspaper picture without some colour banding .
I have set up the printer to scan newspapers but there is always some colour banding .
I have tried putting various colours underneath the paper from white to black and even alumininium foil to see if anything helps. I've tried various resolutions without success.
Any ideas ?
When you first open your scanner you should see an option to 'Select Source' (or something similar). With my scanner, 'Simple Mode' (which opens my default) allows me to select either 'Magazine (Color)' or 'Newspaper (B&W)'. One of those would probably be suitable for your needs. Selecting 'Document (Grayscale)' also produces a colour-free result. You should experiment with similar options on your scanner.
However my scanner also has a button offering 'Advanced Mode'. Using that offers the option to engage the 'descreen filter' which removes the Moire pattern which arises when scanning newspapers and magazines. So you might need to look for 'descreen' or 'anti-Moire' among your scanner options.
It is also possible to remove some of the unfortunate patterns created in scanned newspaper items by looking through the "Effects" section of some Photo printing programs.
4candles What are DPI settings ?
Buencho I've tried all the modes also everything in advanced mode.
I've used descreen and moire pattern on and off. Nothing works .
4candles What's DPI ?
Wak I haven't tried 'effects' this time but I have in the past and some effects help but so nothing has completely removed the patterns.
I think it's somthing to do with the printing process on newspapers. I don't have any problem with anything else only newspapers that's why I hoped someome has an answer.
scotman Colour ! and it is particularly noticeable on roofs of building or waves .
I have had about 12 PCs , printers and scanners and have done over the years hundreds of scans but I've always found garden scenes in newspapers a problem .
I found a facinating Japanese tsunami colour picture which I wanted to scan but it was spoilt by this banding effect on some roof tiles , waves and some building.
scotman When scanning in grey scale the patterning is not so noticeable but it is
still there . I should mention the bands run diagonally from top left down to right.
4candles When you said DPI I thought it was something different but I did say I had tried various resolutions which I assume is the DPI you are referring to or is that something different .?
