I have used free and bought internet security in the past, at the moment im using Kaspersky (which expires in 10 days)
I have always been a strong believer in "you get what you pay for"

Are there any free one's that are as good as bought one's?

do you rate them the same or just as good or if not better?

I have used avg before and Norton (which slowed my pc down like you wouldn't believe!)

I do a lot of downloading so i need something to be quite vigorous, in what I'm downloading!

I know you say you don't like it, but we are very happy with Norton - the latest version scans quickly and promptly.

i imagine its improved since i last used it (5yrs ago) but i also found it quite expensive
Kaspersky if offering full internet security for £19:99 for one year!
I've used the FREE Avast for over 10 years now with no problems. Updates itself regularly.
I have also tried AVG but you can't switch AVG off for a short while without un-installing it.
You would also need a Free firewall.
I've had this afternoon a reply from Iglu to an earlier posting and it is worth having a click into the link:-

Try Avira antivirus.Theres a free version that you can download and use,It updates and does not slow your pc down,I agree with you that Norton slows down alot of ppls computers. The New ones you pay 70quid for that take over your whole pc and everything on them and then you need a program that removes them, and even then they have damaged certain files. So don't bother with Norton or McAffi etc, You need a darm good top of the range pc to manage to run them ones and not slow you down! Some of the free ones detect stuff that even Norton don't detect! Iv ad free virus programs get rid of viruses that Norton could not find!
