unable to open doc attachment

i received an email with an attachment ,titled ..doc... which i cannot open (with vista basic) is there any software that i can probably downlod, to sort this problem, thanks

Word Reader 2003 is available free from microsoft.
Just google it, download it and Roberts yer mothers bruvver.

There are free programs around that can convert a Word (doc) file to a PDF file.

This can be read with Adobe Acrobat which most people already have installed.

Ask the person who sent you the doc file to send it in PDF format in future.
