New laptop connection

OK, I'm gonna say at the start, I haven't looked at all the documentation, wizards etc yet. I only got it Friday, had to charge, then run down, the battery, and only today got around to making the back up discs, and I have had loads of other stuff to do besides. And, as I have this connection anyway on my desktop, it hasn't exactly been urgent.

Question is, obviously I want to connect the laptop. Now I thought it would be easy but it is harder than I thought it would be. I have a secure wireless connection but anyone got any idea how I get the laptop to recognise this?

What exactly is happening?

Is the wifi turned on on the laptop?

Can the laptop see the router but not connect?

Yeah, that's switched on at the front.

No, it can't see any connection, even tho one is there. Also, my desktop recognises other nearby (secure) connections (neighbours), so I thought my laptop would do the same.

I'm trying to run before I can walk here, just wish I had more time to check it out properly - I thought the wizard would find the network, and all I had to do was enter the key number to access it but so far no.

It does seem odd that your laptop isn't picking up any networks.

Could it be your firewall that is blocking them? Try temporarily disabling it on your laptop
