Does anyone know anything about bt connect email. Having difficulty setting up a website for a shop, something to do with the outgoing email ad isn't the same as the incoming ?? On the site you contact us using an info@shopname.com but when receiving email from the same account it comes through as shopname@btconnect.com ???

Does anyone know whats up ?? its all going through outlook express.

thank you for looking

(2-part post):

I think this question has been sitting here unanswered for a couple of days because we're all rather confused. I'm still confused but I'll have a stab at it anyway. (After reading it, you might need to post again, to clarify your question).

What isn't really clear is exactly what type of email service you're referring to. If you simply buy a domain name, like www.moodymann.com, you don't get any email facilities with it. (So, no matter how you configure Outlook Express, you won't be able to use any '@moodymann.com' addresses)

However, the firm through which you registered the domain name will probably have offered you (for more money) a choice of 'mail forwarding' or a full 'SMTP/POP3' mail service.

If you accepted 'mail forwarding', you'll be able to receive mail sent to, say, 'theboss@moodymann.com'. However, there's no specific mailbox for it. Such mail is simply forwarded to your 'normal' email address, such as moodymann@btconnect.com. When you reply to emails, you'll continue to use your 'normal' account (and the people receiving your mail will see your 'real' address, rather than the shop one).

So, if you've got 'mail forwarding', you shouldn't be doing anything with Outlook Express, since everything will come and go through your existing btconnect account.

The other option is a full SMTP/POP3 account. Such an email account is entirely independent of your btconnect email account. You need to configure Outlook Express to connect to the mail servers of your new business provider (according to the instructions on that provider's website). None of those settings should have anything to do with btconnect.

So that's why we're confused. It's not clear exactly what type of mail service you're using. It sounds as if it might well be just 'mail forwarding', rather than a full email service. If so, as explained above, people contacting you via the shop site will be able to use an address with '@shopname.com' but, because you've not got a full email service, they'll still see '@btconnect.com' in your replies.
