It appears that your Internet Explorer has some kind of corruption in it. Depending on what version you have, (click help/about internet Explorer will tell you which) and go to Microsoft to update your version.

Better still, download the free Mozilla Firefox browser. It is as easy to use as IE and has a lot more features.

Leave the Beta version until later, it may have bugs in it. Just grab the 2.0 version and don't forget to let them know what you think of the browser after a month or so.

Thank you for the advice, but unfortunately it made no difference so I took your first suggestion and it seems to have fixed it except when I shut down and then the message comes up again. Might have another go with Microsoft help.

I have experienced this exact problem during Windows updates when all the updates had not yet been downloaded.

It was a new computer and it was still working through them. The problem went away one all the updates had been completed.
