Sky wireless Router + Belkin Wireless Dongle

I have just got sky broadband, installed the router as advised, installed the Wireless Dongle via USD port as per instructions also. The router is downstairs plugged into BT port, and the computer along with the wireless dongle is upstairs (Belkin N series). My computer recognises my wireless router and have got passed the inputting of the passwords etc.. the wireless dongle has been installed but is saying there is no signal.. how to i get the two to talk to each other? Could there be any other problems. I seem to have done everything by the book. Although the router doesnt have all the lights on, maybe this is the problem - i have tried switching it all off rebooting etc.. how can i get the wireless to recognise the router? Please help.

Your dongle must be working - it is the only way your pc could recognise the router if it is not hard wired to it.

Can you confirm your pc is not connected by ethernet to any modem or router.

Nope the ethernet cable is firmly in the packaging still!

I did wonder how the computer recognised the Sky router!

Thanks, any other suggestions..

Oh.

Temporarily disable the firewall - does that make any difference?

I tried disabling the firewall, that hasn't helped. I am still getting the same problem. The router has only got two lights on the three lights on the right hand side aren't on.

I have reinstalled the wireless dongle, and ive still got the same problems. When i add it manually through windows and search for the dongle it only gives me an option to add A;\ - which i beleive is the disc drive, it doesnt give me any other options to add from the USB or a browse function.

Has your activation date for the broadband passed yet? Switching to Sky measn they'll have given you a date that their internet gets switched on, after the router gets there.

You can't use the Sky router with any other internet service due to some hard coding they put on the router.
