About 3 months ago Mozilla Firefox introduced two Gizmos for their toolbar. One was to stop cookies and the other was to remove browsing history for a period of 5 minutes to a week. Since refreshing Firefox both these gizmos have disappeared. How do I get them back

First thing to remember is that when you refresh F'fox, you have to make a note of your extensions - if you're like me, you'll only forget once :-)

There seem to be a fair few addons that do what you want. If those below are no good, I'd suggest opening the Addons page via the 3 bars icon & searching from there or just Googling & checking from those results.

I can't vouch for these as I never clear cookies & use Options > Advanced > Network (via the 3 bars icon) to clear the cache, but this looks as though it might be useful to you -

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-GB/firefox/addon/clickclean/

This one seems to be for cookies alone -

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-GB/firefox/addon/remove-cookies-for-site/

This appears to give further options for history & cookies -

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-GB/firefox/addon/precise-clear-history/

HTH, if not I'm sure someone else will be able to guide you :-)

Many thanks for comprehensive information. The first two web sites are just what I need but all attempts to download have failed. When I get to the section that says -restart your computer - its returns to web site. Will keep trying. Thank U for ur time
Hi irban - I've just tried the 1st one & it was fine. You're right, after the restart you're taken to their home page - just close that tab, click the 3 bars > Addons > Extensions & you should find it there with the "Options" button on the right of the screen.
Re the 2nd link - I've tried that one as well, it gives you right-click access from the main screen but you might have to go through the 3 bars > Customise to find the Toolbar button, which you can drag & drop yourself. Then click "Exit Customize" at the bottom right & you should be good to go.

Have tried the first site and got as far as OPTIONS. But nowhere is there a download button. Ive clicked on most of the panel and nothing happens. Will keep trying
Hi again - there is no "Download" button as such. Once you've opened the link, clicked "Add to Firefox" then when the box appears top left with the options "Cancel" & "Install", you click "Install" (that's the "Download" of the extension).

Once you've opened Click&Clean's Options window, I presumed you'd use those tick boxes to make your choices then click "Close" at the bottom right for them to take effect. Sorry if that doesn't happen, but I'd rather not actualy use the extension on my machine.

Thanks again for your response. Decided to start all over again. When I get to install I am told that installation will start when Firefox restarts. It never does restart and I keep returning to the same box asking me to install. This happens with both sites. I have tried your patience enough - but will keep trying. You have been most helpful - I am determined to crack it. Thanks
Hi irban - we'll get there! I've just added it to my machine again having done this -

Clicked the link.
Clicked "Install".
Closed tabs that have anything to do with it.
3 bars > Addons > Extensions > Click&Clean > Enable -

this then opens Click&Clean with a highlighted "Restart Now" clickable option, as in the pic here -

Clicking "Restart Now" should close & reopen F'fox immediately, with the "Add-ons Manager" tab still open, giving you access to the "Options" box in Click&Clean as described earlier.
Apologies, that pic's a tad small for some reason but I think you can see what I mean...

Thanks again.. Starting from your number 1 link. This brings up a page that says - add to Firefox. Ignoring that I scroll down the page to line which says -install. Left click that bringing up panel which says Instal. Left click that and brings up similar panel saying will be installed after you restart Firefox. Click on restart now. This brings back the page I first started with (complete circle). Unfortunately I dont understand what a tab is and cant find anything on the pages that I can close,so that could be my problem. It seems odd that Firefox should ask me to refresh my slow running computer and then leave off these two gizmos that they were advertising only recently.
Hi irban - ok, I used the "Add to Firefox" but have just tried this way (I assume it's what you've done) -

"Click here to install the latest v4.1"
"Install"
"Restart Now"

That reopens their home page on a "Tab" - pic here shows tabs -

http://media5002.dropshots.com/photos/1334135/20160623/124706.jpg

The leftmost tab is the page this thread is on, the 2nd tab is the Click&Clean homepage that you've been returned to - close that tab with the 'X' to the right, you don't need it any more.

Next - 3 bars > Addons > Extensions - should show you this -

http://media5000.dropshots.com/photos/1334135/20160623/125205.jpg

(that one's also shown smaller than I'd like but it'll have to do, sorry)

You've already restarted F'fox, so the extension is now yours to set as you want via the "Options" box on the right.
Apologies - your tabs might *look* slightly different as mine aren't the default style but they'll be the same essentially :-)

Have got as far as clicking on the right hand cross (as per your pic) but that does not bring up your second picture. I keep returning to page with 3 items on it one of which is click and clean but nowhere is there a b utton to download. Am grateful for all your time and expertise - am sure we will talk again on another matter regards
It reads to me as though you've done it right. After closing that tab with the 'X', do - 3 bars > Addons > Extensions

If you can *see* Click&Clean on the Extensions page, you *have* downloaded/installed (the 2 terms are interchangeable here) it successfully!

If you're trying to re-install it when it's already there *without uninstalling it first*, you'll get nowhere as it won't do anything extra. It won't even tell you that you already have it.

I played around with the page with three items on it. Click and Cookie and Norton. I clicked on disable and then enable and for the first time had a small box top left that Click and clean had been successfully downloaded. That is great but I expected to see a button on my toolbar to click on but there is nothing there so how do I action it.
Ok - I've just re-installed it to check & the blue button & arrow appear at the end of the address bar, as here -

http://media5000.dropshots.com/photos/1334135/20160625/122553.jpg

Can you please tell us if that has happened?

Started from scratch. clicked on your number 1 link. clicked on download. Box in top left corner says download successful. clicked on 3 bars, extensions etc brings up 3 headings. 1 Click and Clean, 2 Cookies, 3 Norton. C lick on Options which b rings up panel with 3 headings 1 Clear Private Data 2External 3 Advanced. NO INSTRUCTIONS WITH THIS PANEL and no sign of anything on tool bar
irban - as I said above, you don't have to keep starting from scratch - once you've installed Click&Clean it's there in your Extensions until you remove it.

I agree there are no clear instructions with the Options panel that you've opened & I've no intention of using Click&Clean on my machine to see what happens by using them, sorry.

Can I establish that the order of the contents of the bar at the top of your screen is - or at least very similar to -

Back/Forward buttons | Address box + "GoTo" Arrow | "Search" Box | Icons

"GoTo" Arrow is a small curved one & the last Icon is probably - but not certainly - the 3 Bars.

Click&Clean should *automatically* place its blue icon (as in my pic above) in the toolbar, next to the address bar.

If it hasn't done that then please try the following -

3 Bars > Customise (opens a new tab)

In the large panel to the left, is there a blue "Cleaner" icon? If so, that's what you need, so left-click it, *hold the mouse button down* & drag the icon to the toolbar, then release the mouse button to drop the icon. Now click "Exit Customise" at the bottom-right of the screen.

Fingers crossed... :-)

That is amazing. I have found the old symbol ( a circular arrow) which is how all this started and in addition there is cookie symbol which I have also transferred to tool bar. I think I am well sorted thanks to you. 18 E Mails for something which should have been so simple. I am extremely grateful for your input and patience - and I am sure we will talk again. Regards
YES! Well done, I'm so pleased I've managed to help & that you're sorted & happy :-))
