Over the years one changes ISPs. With the earliest, I purchased both the router and the USB stick for Wi-Fi. But I didn't bother with this Wi-Fi stick in my latest router. But the times they have been a-changing, such that I find that I would like to have the latest USB Wi-Fi stick. There is a USB socket for such a stick. But I am not sure which speed this socket offers and whether a 3rd-party one would be compatible with my router. Or do I have to purchase the Wi-Fi stick from my current ISP? How can one check on the Wi-Fi standard offered on my router, and what is the most relevant factor one has to consider when obtaining a Wi-Fi stick? Many thanks.

Do you mean a wireless adaptor to plug in the usb port on your pc or laptop?

My laptop/notebook has a built-in wireless receiver. I need to have a Wi-Fi transmitter (= USB stick?) to pop into the router's Wi-Fi socket. Then, all should be hunky-dory...I hope!
Never heard of a router with a plug-in WiFi. Most ISPs will supply a WiFi router as standard. In any case it sounds kind of complicated. Why not just buy a new router? You can get one for 30 quid. http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/networking/networking/bt-wireless-routers/tp-link-td-w8968-wireless-adsl-modem-router-n300-22068974-pdt.html
I'm astonished your router isn't wifi enabled. Who is your service provider?

With the general impression garnered by your comments/replies, I decided to contact my ISP again. Needless to say, the 'expert' who initially consulted & advised me what configuration to purchase was no longer in the firm. It turned out that the router IS with WiFi. All I had to do was to activate using WPA2. The technicalities of this are not my forte, but had -- compared to the previous ISP-employee -- an excellent phone support, ensuring all worked. Brilliant. I'll stay with this ISP = Vodafone now! Thank you all round. Long Live AB!
Hurrah!

When looking to enhance my router's connectivity, I found the perfect solution: a third-party USB wireless stick. This nifty device from https://www.poptop.uk.com/ significantly improved my network's range and speed. With easy plug-and-play setup, it seamlessly integrated with my router, eliminating dead zones and providing a reliable connection throughout my home. This USB stick has been a game-changer, allowing me to enjoy uninterrupted streaming and fast internet browsing.
