I have been unable to log on to firefox. For the last three hours I have had the message "Firefox is already running but is not responding.. Firefox must be closed to open a new window" there is a box which says 'close firefox' which I click on and the other says Cancel.
I've looked at the task manager to see if I know what to disable (ha!) as the problem seems to start as soon as I turn the laptop on, and Firefox seems to be the one running....although there a quite a lot of other programmes on there....There are 77 Processes, CPU usage is 51% Physical memory 46%. I have HP Vista laptop with Windows 8 also have Internet Explorer but can't use it much epecially with my BT account, although its OK to use for AB. Has anyone else had this problem.

In task manager, highlight Firefox then click the 'end process' box.

Wow thank you hc4361, that has stopped it. I don't know why it does it, would I have to do this every time?
My PC sometimes does this; after ending a session on firefox, it will not re-open – displaying exactly the message you receive. I am running XP, but on a PC less than 1 year old.

I suspect it is due to firefox not closing correctly for some reason (with the task manager showing it using resources), I would estimate it to be around a 1 in 20 probability of this occurring after I have closed firefox – so not too annoying.
It happens to me, too, occasionally when I use FF. I am sure it's a fault with FF and not the PC, probably an add on hasn't closed properly. It is an annoyance rather anything to worry about.
