I heard a snippet on my local radio station this morning mentioning the forthcoming rises for line rental from BT, TalkTalk & others probably following in the days to come. Someone on the programme (I didn't hear it all unfortunately) said you can actually get a broadband deal without having a phone line. First of all, I would like to ask how this works & who is providing this. I am moving home shortly & hardly ever use a landline as most of my calls are by my mobile. Maybe someone can throw some light on this for me? thanks x

There was a segment on Radio 5 this lunchtime with Martin Lewis He advised that because of the way Broadband deals are usually packaged it actually works out cheaper to have the landline and not use it than broadband alone.

4G on mobile phones are rolling out so they might have been talking about that? I've tethered my 4G mobile and the speed was similar to my average computer speed.
I have a USB dongle which operates via mobile network. Works fine.
Virgin Media's wholly fibre optic broadband products truly offer a 'broadband without phoneline' service...

thank you all for your replies. It wasn't on Radio 5 I heard this mentioned but maybe as a price rise is in the pipeline it was also picked up on my local radio. I appreciate your answers x
