Parametric Search Script

I have an idea for an addition to my website but I'm not sure that the bit of software I'd need is available. Ideally I'd need it in the form of a wordpress plugin to save having to put a whole website around it just pop it into my existing wordpress website.
I need a script that will allow me to create categories and products and fill in information about the products under headings so that I can carry out a parametric search to select the correct items that fall within the combined search range. Does such a script exist and what would be the best way of going about finding someone to write this for me. Ideally it would need to be able to accept entries by cvs file or a spreadsheet.
any ideas ?
