Google being odd on Safari

On Firefox, my Google behaves 'normally', i.e. the search box comes up, you type your term into it, and press 'Search' or hit return.

On Safari, as soon as you start to type a search term into the box, the box shoots to the top of the screen, plus you get the annoying list of suggestions.

I haven't done anything to Safari (or Google) to provoke this, and it's the same on my pal's Mac, so I think it must be a Safari-instigated change.

Any way of changing it back to what it was, and what it still is, on Firefox?
