Clicking on a link goes to a blank screen

A few teething troubles with a new laptop using Mozilla Thunderbird.

Sometimes, when I click on a link, when the new screen opens, apart from the usual information at the top, the rest of the screen is blank.

Most times the link works perfectly.
Presumably some alteration needs to be made to a setting?

If this query was puzzling, the answer was found that the computer was set to 16 bit instead of 32 bit format.
