software r4i ds for console

Does any one know what the correct software and location, is; needed for the r4i in order to use the cartridge in a dsi.
I bought one for my daughter and have found it extreamly frustrating that I am unable to play her camera video's and mp3's legally.
I am aware that this same chip will host homebrews, never the less, the software is exactly the same needed in order to be able to use the r4i for general use.
I have a r4i dsiLL VI.4
Maybe I have bought a rouge chip, they are plentyful and freely available to buy.
Without been able to place a picture of my aquisition I understand it would be near impossible to tell.
The software issue remains my priority.
Can anyone advise.
