dvdr - failure to initialise

my philips dvdr3480, keeps giving me the error message 'failing to initialise' when I insert a blank dvd-rw+. I have used many of these before with no problems and it will play those previously recorded. Is this a problem with the discs or with the recorder? Orlando32 (Fri 16:52 03/Jul/09)

it's not unusual to get a bad batch ... ideally go somewhere else and buy a box of 5 or 10 (tesco do 5s)
or blag one from a friend.

I've inherited discs from friends who couldnt use them - worked fine for me - similarly I've given them away

because you are melting a plastic film - there are a few reasons why it can fail

also the play and record heads are different so it's possible for a recorder to become a player - but try different discs first

Thanks. I think you may be right - have just bought a different brand and they seem to be ok. Hopefully it was just a dodgy batch!
