LCD or Plasma?

I am going to purchase a new tv and have about �1200 to spend.I was going to buy a sony 46"4500 set but have discovered clouding issues with the screen even though it won the lcd tv of the year.Can anyone advise where my money would be best spent as i had dismissed plasmas but dont know which way to turn now.As always a big thank you for any replies.

I've heard plasma is the best. More pixels or whatever. But of course they cost more than an LCD.
But I'm not a purist so I'd go for an LCD.
