annoying tv message

I have a Sony KDL 26U3000 tv. It was great, but all of a sudden, in the top left corner, it shows the message 'Player1 (HDD) 1080i/50.'
No matter what I do, it wont go away. I change the volume, or channel, it goes, but then returns after a couple of seconds. I have retuned, checked the manual, and done everything I can think of.
HELP.

Press the top left button on the remote.
Have you tried turning the TV off, unplugging it from the wall and then plugging it back in and starting again?

Seems a bit OTT, when you can just press the OSD button :-)
Yes- it takes another 20 seconds. We don't know whether sado has tried either.
