Why do some recordings have drop-out?

Most TV programmes that I record on my PVR (from BBC1, ITV1 etc) are faultless, but others -from, say, ITV3 - have irritating drop-out.
Since there is no reason to fault my PVR can I assume that the signal is arriving in that poor state? If so, what can I do? Is it due to a weak signal from that channel and would an aerial booster help?

All suggestions gratefully received.

If the reason for the drop-out is a weak signal, then a booster amp may reduce the occurrence.
Be aware that many signal boosters offer a gain of around 10dB – check the specification and look for a gain of at least 20dB.

But the drop-out may be a broadcast fault – I watch most of my TV via cable and regularly experience frame freeze or other picture aberrations; and am left wondering why.

Many thanks, Hymie. You have prompted me to do the obvious - watch ITV3 direct and see whether the drop-out is on the original received signal. Stupid me. I'll do that now. Cheers.
