I turned my back on IE ages ago, and have never regretted it. There are several alternatives:
1) go to "http://www.mozilla.org/" where you will find Firefox. Its download speed and packed security measures ensure it has a large following. Endless Plug-ins on offer BUT: the more of these you install, the slower Firefox will obviously run/walk! Frequent updates ensure that any 'holes' in its defences are soon plugged.
2) Opera is another good one. Not so popular - which reflects in its better security, as the naughty software wallahs only go for the giants.
3) Google's Chrome and Apple's Safari lack the user-friendly support of the previous two. In fact, a European Government has advised against Chrome.
P.S. Apart from Firefox, "http://www.mozilla.org/" also offer a good email client, called Thunderbird. The multi-language capability of both of these puts Apple's Safari, for instance, in the shade: one can have only one English language = AMERICAN!!!
Mozilla offers quite a number of language versions. I have German, British English, and Russian. Brilliant.
