car stereo/head unit

hi
wanting to get hubby a new stereo for the car for his birthday, one with a usb on the front. but ive noticed there are car stereos and head units, can anyone tell if these are the same thing please...a head unit and a stereo?

Help with a Sony MEX-BT3600U Car Stereo System
