That's like asking what's the difference between a Ford and a car.

A kindle is a brand of e-reader.

A kindle is a brand of e-reader.
E-reader is the generic name for the item - Kindle is Amazon's branded gizmo.

Oh gosh..I feel a right idiot!!!!
Am seriously thinking of getting one,I LOVE reading ,especially in bed and find some books too heavy and clumsy to hold.(I read lying down)..can one get ANY book for them, given that there are thousands,I cannot imagine them all being available.
I don't think you can get ANY book kloof, but there are a great many that you can get. My son has one which I bought him for his birthday, but I let him choose his own and I think it was a lot cheaper than a kindle. He is an avid reader, but I think he still gets books occasionally if he cannot get them on his e-reader.
I've only had my Kindle a week and am in love with it (after saying I'd never have one and would always prefer books). A lot of books are free at Amazon, and some start from as little as 20p. Best sellers and new releases are about £3.00 cheaper than books. They download in seconds, its brilliant.

I've not yet come across abook I could'nt get, so the choice in phenominal.

Go for it Kloof

I don`t think one can beat a book, but for the reason I have given,I feel I must get a Kindle, there appears to be more than one type, which is the better to buy?
Have just got a kindle, just like you I said you cannot beat holding a book but I am totally besotted with it. It is fabulous and great in bed (how wrong does that sound!!) Taking it on holiday on Sunday for 2 weeks can't wait. I have downloaded loads of free books and the others I have were only £2.99. Highly recommended
I went for the kindle touch, its brilliant. Trust us, you'll never go back to a book.
I've had my Sony eReader for years and can even download books from my local library (and reserve them) totally free.
Not sure you can do that with a Kindle.
I have had a kindle for a couple of years now, whilst it is light weight and convenient I still feel the urge to pick up a real book on a regular basis.
It is also wonderful to be able to adjust the font size.
I have the Amazon 3G kindle. It’s rather more expensive, but since I travel fairly often it means I can download books wherever I happen to be. Not all books are available – but I love it - and it's great for reading in bed (I lie down and read too). When I go away, I can take all my reference books – and more – with me. I still like paper books too though.

mumstheword1,which Kindle have you got?
Also, would like to thank everyone for their replies...so very helpful.
MUST get one!!!!!
I got a sony ereader about six weeks ago,and now wonder how I did without it. I't's gotten me back into the habit of reading-which is brilliant.
Sony is good because it supports more formats than kindle-such as pdf and epub, and yes-you can also borrow library books too.
Can I be a total technophobe and ask if someone could explain how you can download books from your local library?
Here's one explanation...libraries must participate-not all do. The ones here in Devon don't-yet.

I love my sony ereader. But I still buy books too.
Me too...there is still nothing like a new-or old-book.

I adore books, must have hundreds of them around the house...and must have read a thousand more during my lifetime...no exaggeration...been an avid reader since the age of five....am now an old age pensioner!!!
Nothing like a good book!!!!
