Lost Phone ,keeping number

Hello I lost my mobile Payg phone if i go to a phone shop and buy a similar phone can i give them my old number and have it for the new phone i buy?

Contact your network and ask for a replacement SIM card - that will be on your old number with any credit still there (unless someone has used it up on your old phone)

Do it asap, because they will de-activate the old SIM card and might preserve some credit.
