main telephone.

My Panasonic portable main phone has stopped working. It has a mushy sound when picked up and although when a number is put in it rings the number it then simply goes dead. I am able to use the Internet (obviously) so it is obviously not my supplier but wonder if anyone has an idea why it is not working, I bought it about a year ago from Amazon and I have bought new batteries and it said it was charging them but still did not work. My daughter said i needed to try someone elses phone to see if it worked but i do not know anyone to ask, so any suggestions would be gratefully received. Thank you
