Missing Pin

Some months ago I bought 5 metres of VGA Cable and yesterday tried to connect a laptop to a HDTV. No luck. I then discovered that the cable was 14 pin - 1 pin short of the female sockets. Is there any practical use for the cabling or shall I use it as a dog lead?

VGX leads often don't include all the pins.

You probably just need to enable the VGA output on the laptop. Usually there is an icon in the system tray (next to the clock) to quickly choose which mode you want the external screen to operate.

Check your video drive settings for the full range of adjustments

Only 14 pins are connected normally - so this is NOT your problem. Pin 9 is never there - it's the "key" pin. Suggest your fault lies elsewhere, did you enable the external VGA output of the laptop? (FN +F9 on my Dell for example)
