Which DVD recorder?

I want to buy a DVD recorder and having looked through the descriptions of some, I haven't got a clue which one to get! I have a small TV with Freeview and it has one scart plug. What I want is a DVD recorder to record and also to watch prerecorded DVDs on I want one that is fairly easy to use and which I can pause etc. Any ideas?
