how do i turn off the annoying jingle that plays when you open and close the clamshell?

Try this. Go to 'settings' on menu, select 'phone settings', key down until 'start up tone' appears. select either on or off.

thanks, but no startup appears on any menu sandyRoe its a real pain!!!

You should be allowed to disable that somewhere in Profiles.
