Print cartridges in HP psc 1350

I've just had my ink cartridges refilled (by a reputable company) but now the printer will not work at all - the orange light for the check print cartridge is flashing and there's and E displayed in the copies window. I've gone on to the HP troubleshooting part of the site, and have done the "pushing 6 buttons in 10 seconds" step several times to no avail. I've also unplugged the mains cable, and left it alone overnight, but no joy there. I can take the cartridges back to where they were refilled tomorrow, I wondered if anyone can come up with a solution as I really need to use the printer today! TIA

I know this sounds insulting, but check that there's not a small bit of packaging still attached to the print jets, as this will stop the print job, and give the error. It may only be a tiny peice of the plastic covering strip still attached, and is not always 100% certain to be removed during installing the "new" cartridge.

I have taken them out, and looked very closely at them, but there is definitely no packaging left on the, - thank you for the suggestion, nibble.
Maybe they forgot to reset the chip. Are you sure you are getting your own cartridge back? I presume the refilled cartridge was an original HP one.

I'm going to take the cartridges back to the retailer today - rather ironic, that when the cartridges were being refilled, we were discussing how the printer manufacturers made so much profit on the ink, as lots of printers will only work with (in this case) their own brand of cartridges! Anyway, thank you for your suggestions, nibble and wildwood.
