HD TV and PVR - Help Please!

I have broached this previously, but am still unsure so please help anyone in simple terms.

I have a Humax Tv with HD connections and a Humax PVR. I only use the TV as a monitor.

At the moment, as I am unsure what to do, I have the TV coneccted to the PVR with a scart and althought I get a good picture and reasonable sound, I feel I could do better with HD. I currently have to set the sound on the TV to about '50' and then use the PVR remote at about halfway to get reasonable sound, but I feel it is not very crisp. The questions are:

1. If I remove the scart lead and connect the HD lead which came with the PVR to the TV HD connection will I then have to do something else to the TV settings as I then get no picture or sound. Think there is some sort of HDmi setting on the TV - is that the one?

2. If that is so and that will work, what about having to reset my PVR?

3. Looking in the listing mags it shows lots of programs on BBC, ITV and other channels as 'HD'. Does this mean that if I am connected with the HD lead I will AUTOMATICALLY receive the HD picture/sound without having to set up the PVR?

4. There is also listed an HD Channel separately, will this be available on my PVR/Freeview recorder once I am connected via HDmi, as I did not see it as an option when I first automatically downloaded the Freeview Channels?

5. Finally, will I lose any channels by going onto HD. What about the news on BBC1 for instance. Will I still get local news after news at 6 or will this disappear?

Thanks everyone.

1) switch the TV to the HDMI channel.
2)Shouldn't have to do anything.
3) is it a HD PVR? if it is then you'll see the HD channels listed as separate channels, if it's not then you can't receive HD with it.
4) see 3
5) no.

Can't help with your first questions but BBC HD is just another channel like all the others. If it is available and at suitable strength then the 'Setup' or 'AutoTune' facility on the box should find it.
1) switch the TV to the HDMI channel.
2)Shouldn't have to do anything.
3) is it a HD PVR? if it is then you'll see the HD channels listed as separate channels, if it's not then you can't receive HD with it.

5) no.
To watch HD on your TV you have to have a HD signal coming IN.

This HD signal can either come from Sky HD, Virgin HD, Freesat HD or Freeview HD devices.

If your Humax box is a Freeview HD box then you may get SOME channels in HD, but only with a HDMI lead. Scart does not support HD.

You need to check if your Humax box is a Freeview HD box, if it is not you wont get HD on it.

Note that just because a listings mag shows a channel available in HD it does not mean that it is available on ALL platforms (Sky, Virgin, Freesat, Freeview) in HD, it may only be available on one or two of them.

You dont "go HD" you just set your TV up to watch HD, so you dont lose any channels, they are just shown in non-HD.

Thanks all.....Will connect the HD cable. Yes, my Humax PVR is HD.

Will let you know what happens!
Look in TV input options for Digital or HDMI input and enable.

Also enable Audio as 'digital' or 'auto' if there is the option (or you will get hdmi video and no sound)

Sorry to bother you all again - just one further thing!

Have connected just the HDMI cable from my PVR to the TV (which I only use as a monitor) and have removed the previously used scart completely.
Whilst I now get HD sound and picture - everything cane be operated from my PVR remote as before even muting the sound but...... I can only alter the sound volume buy using the TV REMOTE!! any ideas why this is?
It is not a problem, but annoying to have to use two remotes.
I asked Humax but could not unerstand their reply!
They said my TV must be set to HDmi1 rather than HDMI, but there is no option for this in the TV's drop down list and there is only one HDmi connection on the TV and the PVR.

Thanks again
