Instead of shift + a letter I have accidentally pressed CTRL + letter and now have a search window down the left side of the screen. How to I get rid of it?

Pressed CTRL + B, but found a little box above the side bar which gets rid of it (Vista).

Just click the X above the vertical divide between the search pane and the main pane.
