Hi,

Can someone please tell me why i cant play a dvd in avi format in windows media player.
I have sound but no pictures, onlythe visualization on the screen - please help its probably something simple i need to do.

Best to download vlc player, not sure if media can play avi.

Of course windows media player plays AVI files,

in this instance they were probably DivX AVI files and would require a codec to be installed first though.

Thought I`d played avi files at some time, in media player, but wasn`t sure.
Just bought a vista laptop, and they won`t play on this,so probably need codecs.
