Info on Microsoft Silverlight.

Can anyone enlighten me as to the use of M/S Silverlight. What way's can it be used, is it anything to assist in photography? I just do not know anything about the program, am I missing something ?

it's a MS "feature" for your browser that lets you see webpages with siverlight multimedia content, due to Microsofts dominance you will probably need it to view an increasing number of web sites properly!

I believe it is similar to the Flash component from Adobe, to view multimedia content in web browsers.

Microsoft like to have their fingers in all the pies.

They didn't like Flash being so widely used, so created their own (to do just about the same thing).

Flash itself is overused. Silverlight is even worse, given that it's far less supported.

In my view, stay clear.

Thank you all for the quick response, I fully understand the view of ChuckFickens, but the answer from VHG was OK except that the Google site did nothing in the way of explaining in detail what 'Silverlight' was all about. I tend to think that 'fo3nix' seems to have the right idea, at least till I see a visual demo showing its worth.

Do you know what Flash is? If so, you know what Silverlight is.

I only had only a little experience of FLASH, so I have downloaded 'Silverlight'. It seems to be very good. the only snag is it keeps hanging, and I have clear the screen via Task Manager. So it is a problem.

When I first read about Silverlight I had the impression it would be an interesting program to add to the toolbar. There seemed to be various comunity features/sport, and many video's that could be interesting with world wide views. It was I thought a pretty comprehensive setup, but like a few of these type of programs it did not seem to fit in with my system for some reason. The fact was it destablized my computer, why I dont know but mayby I will learn at a later date. Anyway, thanks 'fo3nix'
