disappearing icons

on the toolbar thing at the bottom of my laptop on the rhs near the time, 2 icons have disappeared and I dont know why, first off a while ago now the battery status symbol went missing, now this evening the one that shows internet connection (2 computers and a globe/cross-x) has gone, any ideas how to get them back? many many thanks

Is there a little arrow pointing towards start? If so, click it.

If that isn't the problem, try rebooting

no arrows, tried rebooting but still wont bring any of them back on

vista, have managed to put the battery status back on but still no network icon. its a greyed out box that I cant tick on, have tried customizing the files but on the drop down list I cant seem to find the on for the network symbol
