unable to open mail

When I log into my emails it tells me there is one but when I click to read it nothing happens. The computer keeps telling me internet explorer cannot display the page and when I diagnose connection problems it comes back nothing is wrong. I have turned the computer off and logged in again but the same thing happens. Unfortunately I know this email is urgent and would welcome any help you can offer.
