Excel help

Good morning! If I have one spreadsheet with credit card numbers and employee names next to it, and in another I have just the credit card numbers. What excel formula can I use to have Excel automatically pull across the names and place them next to the correct credit card number, and how?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Ctrl c (copy) sheet 2 and add to bottom of sheet 1. Ctrl s (save with 'x' added to file name for safety).

Highlight the name list and klik on az on above ribbon. A window pop-up Q - go for 'expand selection'. voila!

Use the VLOOKUP function on your sheet with just credit card numbers.

Using the following assumptions :

1. That your credit card numbers and employee names are in columns A & B of Sheet1. That you have 500 credit card numbers & employee names on Sheet1 (i.e. there are 500 rows of data under each heading).

2. That your credit card numbers only are in column A of Sheet2. That you have 100 credit card numbers on Sheet2 (i.e. there are 100 rows of data under the heading Credit Card Number).

So - In cell B2 of Sheet2 insert the following function :

=VLOOKUP(A2,Sheet1!$A$1:$B$501,2,FALSE)

and fill this function down the other 99 rows of column B.

Hope this helps.

just burn the file to cd or dvd and post to me .... I'll sort it out!! ;o/

I'm not clear - are the two lists identical (apart from the name differences)
or is it two seperate lists you are trying to syncronise?

probably the best way is to sort the table using the (hopefully) unique card numbers (be certain all the data is selected)
vlookup and hlookup are quirky - under certain circumstances if you don't have an exact match they will show the next one down .....

then on the card only - sort the table in the same way

depending how many there are
you could copy all the files into one spreadsheet (making sure the column data matches

select the whole block - sort on card number
then manualy delete the duplicates .... depends how many there are
