I know when my internet was running slow they told me to disable all the startup services apart from Microsoft office

On the MSconfig as above - on the services tab tick hide all microsoft services then select disable all then on startup click disable all - made it a lot quicker for me as I had loads

Don't disable all.

You will disable your firewall and antivirus, possibly your keyboard and mouse...

If there is stuff there you recognise but know you don't need on startup, disable that.

You may find this free program useful:

http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/OS-Enhance ments/Startup-Inspector.shtml

It tells you what everything in your startup is for, what it does, and if you can safely disable it.

You can enable/disable within the program too

Is your hard drive 2GB - how much of it is in use? If you've loads of programs/music etc on and not a great % free then that will make it run slow.

I think it's just a trade off

riding bareback is fast but dangerous
you've saddled yourself with protection
safe and steady
even then - 20 mins is VERY steady

it's probably either diskspace
(how big - what spare?)
a driver
or a network error

unless
is your HDD constantly churning while its starting?
how much ram is fitted?

Just click my computer and point to the drive, it should tell you how many gb you have and how much free space.

Go to start - computer - then look for the C drive - it should say for example 40% free then 33.8 free of 83.8 GB
