photo's on computer

I was given a dvd of pics, they showed up as a slideshow, a friend of mine managed to put them onto a cd as stills, but they are kind of taller and skinny, if you know what I mean. Is there a way (easy) to make them more normal so I can get some printed? Hope someone can help, tia Shirl
