Outgoing mail

Could you help please.
On a website if you wanted to email someone you would normally click onto a hyperlink, either the actual name or the word 'contact' and your mail page would come up with the recipients email addie already in the 'to' line.
That's the scenario I remember from good old AOL, however I have a Yahoo.co.uk home page and mail and this doesn't seem to be the case, when I click on the link my mail page comes up but with nothing in the 'to' line, this is frustrating as on some sites the actual email addie is not there.
Is there some box in the settings which is (or is not) checked which would allow this?
If you have a suggestion please make it in simple terms as I am a bear of very little brain when it comes to computers.
Thanks a million!

Some people use a program for their email (for example Outlook Express).

Other people use a website for their email (for example mail.yahoo.com).

When you click on an email link on a web page, your computer will open an email program on your computer (normally Outlook Express).

If you have more than one email program on your computer you can change the settings to tell your computer which one you want to use*.

However, if you use a website for your email, you can't do this.

So, when you see an email link on a website, right-click it and select "copy shortcut". Go to your web page, click in the "To" field, hold down the CTRL key and press V (CTRL+V is the shortcut for 'paste'). Delete the 'mailto:' before the email address.

*to choose the email program that Internet Explorer opens, go to Tools -> Internet Options -> Programs -> E-mail.
