Installing Usb Wireless Adaptor

Good morning everyone!
I am trying to install the above and I am supposed to have an icon on my taskbar that looks a bit like a side view of a staircase or even an old-fashioned bellows type camera. I do not have this icon and it is not in "show hidden icons". Please can someone advise me?
