Hi,
My boyfriend brought a laptop online from a big company. When it was delivered and turned on for the first time it was obvious there was something wrong with it so he phoned the company and they agreed. He sent it back so they could repair it.
He has it back and there is still a huge problem with which the company agree. They have told him to send it back for repairs a second time. Is he within his rights to ask for his money back rather than have it repaired for a second time?

Thanks in advance

Assuming it was brand new, surely it should have been replaced and not repaired?
Yes he was within his rights for a refund the first time around and should have insisted on a replacement not a repair (unless is was a refurbished one). Advise your friend that he insist on a refund or brand new replacement and if bought by credit card advise the Company that the item was 'not fit for purpose'

It was made to order but that is why he would rather have his money back as the repair didn't work and he is doubtful that the next repair will work.
The fact that it was made to order does not change the fact that he is entitled to a replacement. They will just have to build him another one that does work!
I can't help wondering if the company in question is Box Ltd. I bought an Acer computer from them a few months ago, which turned out to be faulty. I contacted the Acer online support and they advised me to return the computer to the supplier and ask for a refund. I did this but the company made huge difficulties at every step. Eventually i got a refund from them, but it actually cost me a fair bit of money before this happened. Never again.
The Consumer Rights Act 2015 applies here and it states that a company is allowed one attempt at repair only and if that fails then a refund must be given.

As already stated he should have insisted on a refund straight away. However, it is clear that he hasn't been able to use it so should get a full refund.
