little pop-up in bottom right hand corner nagging me to upgrade to Windows 10 because it's free. Does that imply that at a later date I will have to pay for it?
Happy Twixtmas everyone!

If you want W10 on your current machine after July 2106 you will have to pay around £100 for it
Yes it is free till about July next year. Microsoft has not indicated if you can upgrade for free after that date.

You can download a small program here called GWX Control Panel that will stop the nagging messages from Microsoft.

It is free for 1st year from date it was originally made available after which I believe it will cost around £99 unless details have altered.
If you do install it and don't like it you have 30 days from installation to go back to what you had before.
Thanks for the link VHG. I had 10 machines to fix remotely, and was looking forward to an afternoon of registry hacks, and such. Done the lot in 15 minutes.

Thanks so much, I posted this then completely forgot about it ;)
Good to know I've not got to do it yet,....am only just getting to grips with this 8.1 rubbish. Will there still be side-swiping with 10? :(

I was a bit wary about doing it (if it ain`t broke don`t fix it) but went ahead and pleased to say all went well. Even got a free anti virus built in to it. p.c. running better than ever..
from a programmer's perspective, 7 and 8 versions were a mess....10 is indeed much better performing on a pc and I am happy with it - little difference to 7, thank goodness, just more functionality.
As soon as I submitted that answer mentioning `anti virus` I had a advert on the side offering me Norton with 30% off. I think this monitoring of what web pages you visit or type to be quite creepy!!

barney.....adblocker......;) x x x

Cheers Bathsheba, Now installed
Adblocker, and they gone! thanks....

Which adblocker is the best. There seem to be so many to choose from.
I use ublock as Adblocker now lets some ads through (if the advertiser has paid them)
I just typed adblocker in the search, and a it offered me a extension to google chrome, installed it and all`s well (so far) the wife kept asking me why there were so many adverts for Ann Summers type products all the time..
Please remember to disable your adblock on AnswerBank as the adverts pay for the site.

So,....can anyone tell me if Windows 10 still uses that side-swiping move please?

Had to look up what you were on about. Seems a questionable thing to add to a PC. Could be annoying on a mobile or tablet too.

Thanks to all for your interest + answers!
Am giving BA to furrypuscat, cos although it was a supplementary question she answered, side-swiping was a major concern for me ;)

Thank you for best answer. I am assuming when you say swiping, you are referring to moving the mouse quickly to right side of (in my case) laptop to enable access to on/off, printer, etc. I hated that. The 'Windows' icon is back on W10 where you click and access everything. There are coloured tiles for apps which you can place in order you want them and delete any you know you won't use. The power and settings are all listed so access is easy. Much better than W8.
