Activating Desktop Icon

Windows 7. Suddenly aol 9.6 desktop icon to open wont work!
After trying everything I could think of, tried to system restore but then got the "unsuccessful" message quoting error Oxc 0000022.
All other desktop icons working. Last thing I want to do is contact aol help and support - previous experiences a nightmare!

I have had a search round and it seems that error number is a serious Windows malfunction.

I would try to reinstall the AOL desktop code (you may need to uninstall the existing version of AOL first)

If you do an uninstall make a note of any AOL settings before you do the uninstall.

Thanks for the advice and the link. Successfully downloaded 100% only to get message that communication software on my computer would not let the download to install and I should remove the following: but there is nothing showing on the box to remove! Options are to Retry or Cancel and only the cancel works.
