Ms Office Picture Manager Thumbs Are Fine, But All Photos Opened Are Turned

I've moved a handful of photos from my Samsung mobile to my laptop using W10. In the past I've used MS Picture Manager so I could do quick simple editing.

However, now all the photos display properly in portrait in the thumbs, but when I open them, they're turned 90degrees.

Not sure if I've suffered some cerebral haemorrhage and simply forgotten a simple function, but for the life of me I can't figure out how to correct this!

Help greatly appreciated!

and just an update...I noticed in another thread that someone recommended I try PhotoPlus. Sadly, it appears to now contain a trojan. I've accessed the forum for the provider but it appears to be an ongoing complaint.

Oh well...
