Hi all.
I have damaged the screen on my laptop. It'a few years old and until recently ran on Windows 7. I recently used the free upgrade to Windows 10 but now the screen is damaged. I have a slightly newer, more reliable laptop which has been stored and unused for a few years, this still runs on Windows 7. With my old one, I used to back up the music and photo folders on to an external hard drive every few months. However since my last back up there are a number of music tracks and pictures I would like to retrieve before I finally lay it to rest. I have a VGA cable (male to male) which will connect the old, broken screen laptop directly to the newer laptop.
Can anyone advise me if I'm able to display what should be on the damaged screen, on the non damaged screen. If I can achieve this then I can drag off all I need before I get rid of it.
Thanks.

No. It would be better to connect your old laptop to an external monitor or, failing that, maybe you have a TV set with a VGA input.
You could take the hard drive out and put it in to a caddy like this one:

Then you can use it as an external hard drive and move files to your other pc.

You must be sure to buy the right sort of caddy
