Buenchico.. Avast. Is Cnet.com Safe?

Further to my previous thread. I went into avast.com and free download. It then reverts via cnet.com. Is. this safe? I dont want a lot of spammy things downloading at the same time as Avast ... Thanks Chris. Or anyone ! This happened once before with Adobe and I had to get something like Fego deleted which had crept in whilst I was downloading ... Cost me £80 to get it removed ....

Just be aware and opt out of anything added to the download. Go for a 'custom' install, so that you can keep track your only installing Avast Anti Virus 2015.

Some stuff on CNET comes with their own 'installer', which can, if you're not careful, install stuff onto your hard drive that you'd probably rather not have. (It's not actually 'dangerous'; it's simply annoying). However, even when that 'installer' route is required to get a program from CNET, you can still get rid of the unwanted stuff simply by selecting 'custom install' and then removing all of the ticks against anything you don't want. So I ner have a problem downloading anything from CNET. (Methyl hates it though!).
However Avast doesn't come with CNET's 'installer', so you're doubly safe with downloading it. Go ahead and install Avast from there.
Once you've installed Avast, make sure that you turn 'Sounds' off. (If you don't, you'll frequently hear an annoying American woman's voice telling you that it's been updated. She can drive you up the wall!). It's dead easy to do so. You simply click on the Avast icon at the bottom right-hand corner of your screen. (It's a curly 'a' inside a mustard-coloured circle. You might need to go via 'Show hidden icons' to see it). Click Settings, then Sounds. Click to remove the tick and then on OK. Job done!

Is it avast.com? This what I get, then when I go to download, cnet comes up in the search line at the top.. Is there a way of downloading without cnet?

CNET is simply a (completely safe) file-hosting site. Many major companies choose to place their software there (rather than on their own servers, which might not be able to cope with thousands of people all over the world attempting to download the files simultaneously).
As I've stated above, you need to be a little careful if a file is shown as coming with CNET's installer but Avast doesn't, so it's a perfectly safe download. (It's the one I used to put Avast onto this computer and it hasn't blown up yet!)
