Backup / Archive And Time Capsule Devices. Need Advice.

I need an external harddrive / device to store files on. An archive. I have a large amount of photographs / graphics that are taken up valuable space on my Work computer, which I rarely access, but need to keep anyway.

I have attempted to purchase a number of pieces of hardware which I thought I could just use to dump rarely accessed files onto, which at some point in the future re-access if needed. But every device I have bought turns out to be an auto-backup device meaning if I delete or alter a file on my computer, the backup device mirrors it!!! I don't want this.

In the good old days, I would have simply burnt images onto a CD and tehn cleared them off my harddrive, safe (well relatively) that I could always access them if needed.

Currently purchased an Apple Time Machine, WD Passport Ultra.

Someone please recommend a piece of hardware which I can simply p[lug into my Mac (via USB) and drag and drop folders onto.

You can "Copy and Paste" from your Mac to your WD Passport Ultra, you do not need to use backup software.

Thankyou, so would I just format to Yosemite (my Mac OS) and then copy and paste?
Use Disk Drill to backup your files for free. Disk Drill allows you to backup your Mac by creating a Disk Image. This Disk Image is an exact copy of your hard drive, saved onto a separate external hard drive. Download at CNET: http://download.cnet.com/Disk-Drill/3000-2094_4-75984417.html
